As well as being very symbolic, it depicts The Freemasons Tavern, in Great Queen St. Established in 1775, it was the home of The Premier Grand Lodge of England. In 1813 The Premier Grand Lodge & The Ancients Grand Lodge formed together to become The United Grand Lodge of England. This plate would have been used at the festive boards that occurred after the lodge meetings.The Freemasons Tavern was demolished in 1909 to make way for what is now The Connaught Rooms. This particular plate measures approx 8 1/2 inches wide / 21.8cm. It is in lovely condition for a plate that is 200 years old.
