Pair of Chinese Export Porcelain European Blue & White Canton Clobbered Plates
Pair of Blue and White Clobbered Chinese Porcelain Plate. Clobbering: A traditionally derogative name referring to Chinese export porcelain that has got its original Underglaze blue and white decoration added onto in Europe with a later colored enamel decoration. The secondary decoration were sometimes limited to only a new or additional borders, sometimes rough foliage, figures, animals.. "Clobbered" export porcelain, "clobbering" stared in Europe in the mid 18th century, probably around 1740 when the market at this time demanding high quantities of enameled Imari style porcelain. No obvious repairs, cracks, or chips aside from typical kiln imperfections. Note: Image of the two plates together is skewed a bit on either side making each plate look a bit off. This is a limitation of the camera. See the pics of the individual plates to see they are centered and round. CONDITION NOTE : Carefully examine each image for flaws, cracks, restoration, and alike. DIMENSIONS : Both 8 ½ round. Left plate is a 1 drop from rim to table and the right plate has a ¾ drop from to table.
