J & W Ridgeway Christ Church College Antique Dinner Plate 4

J&W Ridgeway Christ church college dinner plate, blue and white design. Very good condition some signs of use. From the Historical Period of Staffordshire pottery, this is a transfer-printed light and dark blue plate depicting Christ Church College of Oxford University. In this scene, copied from an etching or painting, shows students standing in the foreground, with the 17th century Tom Tower designed by Christopher Wren in the background. Also shown is the 16th century Cathedral Church of Christ, which was established by King Henry VIII.

The plate has Neoclassical, Grecian-inspired cartouches containing goats and Grecian figures on the rim, along with florals and botanicals. This plate is from the Oxford and Cambridge College Series by John & William Ridgway. It was made at their Cauldon Place Works, Shelton, Staffordshire.
