A great early 19th c. Chinese Export Porcelain Platter - Classic Blue and White Canton, measuring 13 x 10 inches. Excellent condition - the usual scattered glaze pops and small imperfections but no conspicuous chips or cracks. Please note: I have other lots of Chinese export ware currently listed.

Here's a bit of history about Canton Ware. Chinese export porcelain or Canton ware is known by many names. You would recognize a piece of it if you had one from its characteristic blue and white color, so don't let all the different names fool you. Canton ware porcelain was manufactured in the province of Ching-Te Chen. In the late 1700s, the newly independent American elite and wealthy classes, mainly New Englanders, decorated their tables with this porcelain including George and Martha Washington. This blue/white china--not to be confused with flow blue.
