The rich blue pigment is gorgeous against the brilliant white porcelain ground. The plate features spectacular artwork which depicts scholars deep in conversation, small villages nestled amongst mountains and trees, along with two people meditating under a bamboo canopy. Another important feature of the plate is the scalloped or notched brown edges.
Measures 15.5 inches in diameter. This is a wonderful piece to collect or to add to an existing condition. The reign mark is incised on the bottom of the plate.
All reasonable offers will be considered. Igezara pieces with "piecrust", "scalloped" or "notched" rim. Ige is a Saga prefecture dialect for thorn. When these came out of the kiln, the pinched areas were'sharp as thorns' before being smoothed down. Thus Igezara = Thorn plates.
Igezara was made for the common man and usually thickly potted so withstand wear and tear and daily use. The generally accepted period Igezara was made is 1880 - 1910 but may have had some early and late examples.
