Below the cobalt blue section there is a translucent white porcelain. The base porcelains were imported from England and Germany to Fagliarin & Franco' s Venice glass studio. It was there that the delicate enamel and glass works were added to decorate the porcelain, all done meticulously by hand. You can imagine how much time and masterful skills it takes to decorate just one of these pieces! The plates are each hand signed in gold gilt script on the bottom.
The plates measures 9 3/4" (25 cm) across side to side, 6" (15 cm) across the base and stand 1 1/2 (4 cm) tall. Condition-wise, there are about 4 small chips in the white lace area, 2 on one plate and 2 on another. These spots are highlighted with arrows.
They are small, but require mentioning for clarity. Please see photos for details.
Enjoy more photos of this and of our other items at. These small chips do not detract from the overall beauty of the plates. The outer golden rim is strong on all of the plates. These plates were probably made some time between 1890 and 1910.
In 1898, Pagliarin & Franco joined a consortium of Italian murano companies that set up shop on prestigious Regent Street in London. Among the members of the consortium were renowned Venician glass makers, Salviati & C.
And the Venice Art Co. They installed beautiful mosaics above the shop windows at 235 Regent Street, London, England, and they are still there to this day! Pagliarin & Franco were also known to have a murano foundry along the Grand Canal in Venice, Italy, in 1899. Their main years of business were 1890 - 1910.These rare and brilliant pieces of porcelain, made during the golden age of lace decorating, "Belle Epoque", would complement any assortment of fine and rare. The plates are described as objectively as possible. If an item has a scratch or ding, I will tell you. All pictures are of item to be sent.
