Pagoda & Fence Pattern Pearlware Plate. A late 18th century English pearlware plate. It has a shell and feather edge and there is a small impressed diamond mark to the underside of the lip.

I believe this form of the Pagoda & Fence pattern is not as yet fully attributable but potential candiates are Leeds and William Greatbatch (Staffordshire). It would appear to be from the same factory as the other example we have listed (at time of writing) but painted by a different hand.

The design is, of course, in the Chinoiserie style and pearlware was developed as an improvement over delft glazes and getting nearer to the look of Chinese porcelain. General crazing which has browned a little, worst to reverse. Smudge from production to the center decoration. Very minor edge chips and a glaze scrape to the rim. Diameter: 24.7 cm (9 3/4 inch).

Weight: 374 grams (before packing). If for any reason you are unhappy with your item please let us know as soon as possible, and we will do our best to put things right.
