Pagoda & Fence Pattern Pearlware Plate. A late 18th century English pearlware plate. It has a shell and feather edge and there is a small impressed quadrant type mark to the reverse.
I believe this form is not as yet fully attributable but potential candidates are Leeds and William Greatbatch (Staffordshire). The design is of course in the Chinoiserie style and pearlware was developed as an improvement over delft glazes, getting nearer to the look of Chinese porcelain. Small glaze fault/chip to top feather point. Flat chip exposing the pottery to a shell edge near the bottom.
Some crazing in the thicker glaze areas and to the reverse. Surprisingly smart looking given the approx 230 year age. Diameter: 24.7 cm (9 3/4 inch).Weight: 444 grams (before packing).
