Antique Brameld Rockingham Blue and White Meat Plate The Returning Woodman

0155 Brameld Blue & White Plate. An early 19th century Brameld blue and white canted rectangular meat or serving dish. It is transfer printed in the Returning Woodman pattern, originally known simply as Peasant.

It was produced in the Rockingham Works in Yorkshire and it dates around 1820-30. To the underside it has'Brameld+1' impressed into the body. It is slightly dished to retain juices etc from meat joints. A rim chip to the reverse shown in the images.

Some glaze scrapes around the rim. Glaze has a light orange peel type texture. A rim hairline stopping short of the flat base section, visible largely to the underside. Lots of wear and scratches to the reverse, although only light utensil marks to the face. Slight glaze spot losses to face from stacking spurs during firing.
