A mid 18th century London (Lambeth) delft ware large plate or charger. This pattern is referenced to the Lambeth factory around 1760.
English delft was an attempt to imitate Chinese porcelain of the period at a lower cost and the tin glaze used is similar to the European faience ware. The pattern is a Chinoiserie form of a garden and fence, and the decoration around the rim is typical of the Lambeth factory. These pieces are of course all hand painted and glazed over a relatively soft earthenware body. Diameter: 26.5 cms Approx.
