1905 Massachusetts Auto Register license plate 11373 porcelain white blue first

Very nice unrestored 100% original Massachusetts license plate. 1905 manufacture and issued not much later. 13 by 6 inches; white legend on blue background. T he plate lies completely straight and flat, with excellent original porcelain as seen in the photos. Fresh out of a recent trade and I removed all the restoration and brought the original plate back instead of a crappy looking restored plate.

Back to its original condition as found. First issue of Massachusetts plates - they started in June of 1903 at number 1, reached 10,000 in about 1905, and then marched on to 26,000 or so registrations before replacing all of the first issue with the dated 1908 series. "27" on the back means a February, 1907 date of manufacture. This plate was registered to Samuel A.

Hawke, 54 Ferry Street, Malden on a 14-16hp Knox automobile. Porcelain plates are fragile, because the coating is literally glass fused to the steel.
