Item Description: 17th - 18th Century Pewter-mounted German Faience Tankard, blue and white painted chinoisorie style design with multiple figures in a landscape. Hallmarks on pewter, inside lid.

Establishes that the item is characteristic of 1666 Frankfurt-based Fayenvemanufaktur. 3lbs From the estate of Hans Cohn, an investment banker and art collector who showed his extensive collections of glass and other works from ancient civilizations at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and elsewhere over the past several years. Cohn and his wife, Varya, amassed antiquities from Greek, Roman, Etruscan and Egyptian cultures that were shown at LACMA in 1990, and the museum opened a permanent installation of the Cohns' collection of ancient glass pieces the same year.

Measurements: 9.375 height (not including thumb knob). Condition: Scattered large crazing or hairlines, restoration at foot. Scratches, oxidation to metal components.
