RARE SET OF 12 lovely, highly decorative, antique mazarine blue ground porcelain (bone china) loop sprigged dessert plates dating from the Georgian to Regency period of the early 19th century. Made by Job Ridgway of the Cauldon Place China Works, Shelton, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire in England circa 1808 -1810. Each has an ornate shaped rim with an octagonal lobed and crescent shaped edge with relief molded or looped sprigged leaf decoration to four equally spaced places on the lip, coinciding with the lobes. The center of the plates, which have been reserved in white in an asymmetric twelve pointed star shape with a gilt line edge, have been very finely hand painted with a different, but complementary, topographical scene in muted brown and green tones.
The scenes are set in a country landscape. The rich mazarine blue ground around the lip has been further decorated with pale lemon colored stylized flowers with gilding, some collectors may call them sun or star shapes. There are gilt dots and crescents, which could be described as moon shapes scattered around the lip. The underside of the plates are marked pattern number 941 in red cursive script. Each measures approximately 8 3/4 inches 22. Cm in diameter and stands 1 1/8 inches (2.8 cm) high. Each is in very good to near excellent antique condition with some wear to the gilding. No chips, cracks nor restoration.
Two plates have surface marks on them and one has some paint loss. See photos with "yellow highlighting". Other signs of their antique age may exist.
