This great set of ten late Georgian Wedgwood pearlware blue and white transfer printed plates is in the Claude or Blue Claude pattern. This printed underglaze blue pattern was introduced by Wedgwood in 1825. I believe our plates to date to within five years of the beginning of production given the marks on the reverse of the plates impressed Wedgwood H and printed B in blue.
This is thought to be the finest design Wedgwood did in blue and white earthenware. The plates are 9.75 in diameter and might be described as luncheon plates. The plates are in excellent condition with remarkably light wear given their almost 200 years. The only damage I could find was on chip and one star shaped internal hairline (see photos).
I believe this set of plates has always been together.
