Rare Complete Set Gien France Joan of Arc Blue White Transferware Plates Faience We are delighted to offer this complete set of the decorative and rare "Assiette Parlante" {talking plate} featuring national heroine and Saint Jeanne d'Arc, in blue and white faience transferware, produced in France between 1938 and 1960. Produced in Gien, France, situated on the site of an old convent in Minimes, this is a pattern produced back in the 1860s and repeated. Gien France is known for its high quality and stunning transferware and designs.
It is quite hard to find the complete 12-tableaux story of Jeanne D'Arc, some 80 years old, in this condition. Only two plates present a tiny chip on rim on the underside or lip. Each plate portrays a milestone event in the life of Jeanne, culminating in her final moments as she was burned at the stake on May 30, 1431 at 19, after being found guilty on a variety of charges by the pro English Bishop of Beauvais for her part in The 100 Years War. The bright Blue border is especially beautiful, with flags, Jean's shield and sword, as well as angels and floral motifs.A fabulous addition to your collection of French faience story plates, Joan of Arc memorabilia, and a piece of French history. The plates are in pristine condition - bright and fresh. Each plate measures 7 5/8.
