A Fine Transitional Blue And White Export Porcelain Dish Jingdezhen ware. Porcelain of circular form with an everted rim with its edge dressed in iron-brown glaze, the recessed interior painted in very fine underglaze cobalt blue wash with an extensive riverscape, a figure standing on the promontory with dwellings and tree, a craft with masts and three tall jagged rocks in the middle distance, mountains in the distance, the cavetto encircled with a band of geometric pattern, a band of overlapping cloud scrolls, the underside decorated with flowering sprays and Buddhist emblems, a cobalt-blue. Seal character mark within a double rectangular to the base, typical kiln-grit adhering to the exterior and interior of the footring, covered with a pale blue tinged grassy glaze in darker hues where thick, partly soiled. The blue and white porcelain dish is thought to have been manufactured in a private kiln in Jingdezhen in the Shunzhi period for the Japanese market. This type of cobalt-blue seal character mark would be copied in Arita as early as 1660s.
14.5 cm (5.7 in) maximum cross diameter. Almost perfect condition with the exception of two very trivial shallow glaze chips to the edge of the liprim (almost unnoticeable see last digital image provided) unless otherwise undamaged with no chips, cracks and restoration. Some manufacturing imperfections to the glaze.
