A Fine Early Qing Blue & White Heirloom Faceted Porcelain Bowl. Shunzhi/Kangxi
A Fine Late Transitional Blue And White Heirloom Porcelain Bowl With Faceted Sides With An Old Storage Box Jingdezhen ware. White porcelain of circular form with a flared rim and deep curved sides raised on a small high foot, painted in fine underglaze cobalt blue tones with a central circular medallion enclosing a swastika within a double square among flowering sprays, the liprim border encircled with two bands of interlocking flowerheads, the moulded eight faceted sides alternately depicting a crane resting on the foreground under a tall pine tree with angular limbs, three clumps of needles painted in short and darker lines, flowering branches, a house on the promontory among a mountainous landscape, sprays of bamboo, a viewing-pavilion among a mountainous landscape, flowering branches, flowering branches f prunus, and flowering branches of lotus in a pond, a chevron band to the foot, the edge of the footring burnt pale brown, some manufacturing imperfections to the footring and the thickly potted recessed base, covered with a pale blue tinged glaze in darker hues where thick, the bowl with an old fitted wood storage box with a silk braid, an old paper label attached to the front side of the lid. The blue and white Jingdezhen porcelain bowl is though to have been manufactured in a private kiln some time between the Shunzhi and early Kangxi periods for export Japan. The style of potting and cobalt-blue painting are reminiscent of those of Jingdezhen porcelains that were manufactured in the late Ming dynasty for the Japanese market. The bowl is thought to have been in Japan and changed hands up to the Meiji period.

18.9 cm (7.4 in) maximum cross diameter, 8.6 cm (3.38 in) high. The porcelain bowl is believed to have had a brown-washed rim originally but it appears to have been sanded down in order to hide chips or frits at some stage unless otherwise undamaged with no chips, cracks and restoration. Very good ring when tapped. Some old wear to the glaze in general use. The old wood storage box is very worn with warm holes, cracks, chips and partly damaged in frequent use.
